To mark the centenary of the science fiction writer Stanislaw Lem, we presented this tribute in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Institute and Leeds International Film Festival. Legendary stop motion animators the Quay Brothers appeared in person to present their new short film primer, 11 Preliminatory Orbits Around Planet Lem, alongside Maska, a beautiful adaptation of one of his short stories made in 2010. Also screened was another rarely screened Lem adaptation, Roly Poly made by the renowned Polish director Andrzej Wajda in 1968.

Roly Poly is a short, comic sci-fi film, based on a script by sci-fi author Stanislaw Lem.

A panel discussion followed the film, including contributions from the Quay Brothers, Dr Amy C. Chambers and Professor Stuart Murray, chaired by Simon Ings.
